Robert Stephen, Choreographer and Dancer 

Robert Stephen was born in Burlington, Ontario and trained at Canada’s National Ballet School. He joined the National Ballet of Canada in 2004 and has been a First Soloist with the company since 2011. He has worked with many prominent choreographers including Crystal Pite, Wayne McGregor, Christopher Wheeldon, Alexei Ratmansky, John Neumeier, and James Kudelka. His repertoire includes the title roles in Pinocchio and Hamlet as well as the roles of the Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

As an emerging choreographer, Mr. Stephen has received several awards including the Clifford E. Lee Choreography Award at the Banff Centre, a Creative Partnerships Commission from Dance Ontario, and the Audience Choice Award for Best New Choreography at the Ninth International Competition for the Erik Bruhn Prize.
